Tonya Mamalyga
The artist Tonya Mamalyga was born in Lutsk.
In 2007, she graduated from Lesya Ukrainka Volyn State University with a degree in Fine and Decorative-Applied Arts. She worked as an art teacher at the «P’yaternya» fine art studio, and subsequently spent three years at the Volyn State College named after I.F. Stravinsky as a lecturer in fine art.
During this period, she opened her own fine art studio, «Malovka», and ran masterclasses both in her own studio and at the «Barva» and «Territory of Development» studios.
In 2019, Tona worked as a set designer on the «Hobbit Hill» project. «Hobbit Hill» is a fairy-tale tourist complex in the Carpathians, combining the aesthetics of J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe with the colourful traditions of the Hutsul region. The artist created sketches of building facades and brought them to life using materials such as wood (carving three-dimensional and semi-three-dimensional forms of large dimensions from lime wood), plywood and other materials. She also developed themed promotional merchandise related to the project. She combined her work on the project with her role as a designer of puppets at the Volyn Academic Regional Puppet Theatre.
In 2021, she ran a ceramics studio in Chernihiv (Department of Folk Crafts and Artistic Industries).
Tonya Mamalyga works in various techniques and regularly takes part in exhibitions and salons.
