Akhra Adjinjal

Akhra Adjinjal, Ukrainian painter whith Abkhazianorigin, graphic artist, art critic, was born on November 17, 1962 inKutol, Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

In 1982 he graduated from the Sukhumi Art College. From 1982 to 1987 he studied at the Department of Art History of theFaculty of History at Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov.

In parallel, he was engaged in graphics and painting. For some timehe took lessons from the famous Russian artist Dmitry Lyon. In 1987he defended his diploma in the history of contemporary art ofAbkhazia (supervisor: A. I. Morozov).From 1987 to 1992 he worked in the art history magazine «Art ofAbkhazia». The author of more than fifty articles and notespublished in Abkhazia and Russia. At the same time he was engaged inbook and magazine graphics.

Since 1993, lives and works in Kiev, Ukraine.

Doctor of Art History Andrei Tolstoy describes themain features characteristic of Ajinjal’s creative manner:«Timelessness, universality is an important quality not only of theartist’s compositions with naked bodies, but also of his stilllifes and landscapes. Perhaps it is precisely this feature of theworks of Akhra Ajinjal that underlies the fact that very differentpeople like his works, both those who consider themselves to besupporters of traditional forms of pictorial art, and those who areinclined towards non-classical, more expressive areas of 20th centuryart».

Akhra Ajinjal works in the genres of still life,landscape and in the genre of a nude female model (nude).The artist himself defines his creed in art:«I am tired of over-informative art. I do not want to impose myselfon the viewer, but only touch him. To touch softly, easily andthereby appeal to his heart».
